What is device allocation?

Device allocation is the process of connecting system devices so they can work together. This ensures that your greenhouse systems operate in harmony and that settings and recipes automatically match the correct devices.

Examples of allocation

  • Linking valves to valve groups

  • Linking measuring boxes to controls

  • Linking water systems to mains

How it works

Allocations are managed through configuration matrices:

  • You add or remove connections by clicking items.

  • Linked items appear in dark blue, while unlinked items show in white.

  • Most items can only be allocated to one group at a time, but a group can have multiple items connected.

Key rule

When you change allocations, recipes and settings automatically move with the components to their new connections. This keeps your system consistent and reduces manual adjustments.

The allocation interface simplifies adding devices, such as valves, to a valve group. Begin by locating the desired allocation screen, which is always found last on the settings pages. Next, click Edit on the specific group where you wish to add or remove objects.

The allocation screen will show a list or grid of all items that can be allocated. Reading it is straightforward:

  • Any item linked to the selected group is shown in dark blue.

  • Unlinked items are shown in white.

  • Items that are linked to a different group are shown in light blue.

To allocate or de-allocate an item, click it. The change takes effect immediately. To let you know, items linked to different groups are automatically removed from their old group.

For objects that can be linked to multiple groups, it is even easier:

  • Any object linked to the selected group is shown in dark blue.

  • All other objects are shown in white.

Locks

A group or item may be locked if part of the system is active. A lock icon indicates items that cannot be added or removed. Valves will display a water droplet icon to indicate they are active.

Allocating devices directly from a monitoring dashboard

You can add any allocation table in Operator to a custom monitoring dashboard. To do this, click 'Add to dashboard' in the top-right corner of the page where the table appears. Select the dashboard where you want the allocation table to appear, and you're done! You can now quickly access your most frequently used allocation tables without having to navigate to the pages they're on.

How to add an allocation table

The process is simple and similar to adding measurements or settings:

  1. Locate the allocation table
Go to the section where your allocation tables are listed.

  2. Select “Add to dashboard”
Click the option to add the table to your monitoring dashboard.

  3. Start allocating directly from the dashboard
Once added, you can manage allocations without leaving the dashboard.
